USA coast to coast stage 32 Richmond IN to Marysville OH

 169KM, 691M climbed, 6 hours 43 minutes 

Total 4,114KM, 23,256M climbed, 167 hours 24 minutes 

Our 4th century ride did not get any off to a great start with the hotel alarm going off at 4:00 as someone had burnt some food in the kitchen.

Rain was forecast for later in the ride so I took the opportunity to leave slightly earlier than usual at just after 7:00 hoping to beat the rain.

Shortly after starting we crossed the state line into our 10th different state Ohio.  The first 40 miles of the ride to our first rest stop was really a pleasure with very quiet country roads a lovely scenery of green fields and small townships.

At the rest stop we were greeted by friends and family of a couple of riders who had done the tour previously.  They laid on doughnuts, music, and cookies in the shape of the USA showing our route.

About 10 miles after the stop the rain hit although unlike the last time we had rain which was about 3 weeks ago in New Mexico the temperature did not dip too much but the rain continued for the last 50 miles of the ride which meant riding really carefully into Marysville our destination for the day.

Need to get some sleep now as we have another century ride tomorrow.

USA coast to coast stage 41 Troy NY to Battleboro VT

 128KM, 1,727M climbed, 5 hours 49 minutes  Total 5,373KM, 32,183M climbed, 218 hours 47 minutes  A big climbing day today and we also crossed into our 13th different state Vermont. We started climbing from the off with a 3 mile climb just outside of Troy which split the group up and due to the climbing I found myself on my own for most of the ride.   As we entered Vermont most of the rest of the ride was in the Green Mountain National Park which meant stunning scenery of trees, hills and fast flowing rivers. The next climb was an 8 mile ascent up the Prospect Mountain and then a great descent with smooth sweeping roads.  After another small climb I descended at speeds hitting 48MPH. I cycled over my first covered bridge before then unfortunately starting to ride on a road that was under repair with no tarmac.  After 1.5 miles of bone shaking riding and fearing that my bike might fall apart I decided to take a diversion off the designated route.  Whilst this diversion was scenic I did

USA Coast to Coast stage 30 Crawfordsville IN to Greenfield IN

 120KM, 380M climbed, 4 hours 55 minutes  Total 3,859JM, 22,187M climbed, 157 hours 42 minutes  A short ride today of 73 miles in the context of the daily average of 80 miles. A very different ride to normal which started with pleasant countryside and towns and then became city riding as we rode through the middle of Indianapolis.  Unfortunately although we rode through the suburb of Speedway I didn’t get to see the racetrack where the Indy 500 is held. The ride included 2 bike trails the first following the river and the second a trial of about 10 miles taking us out of Indianapolis and to our destination Greenfield which is a fairly non descript town with the usual collection of fast food restaurants.   We finish 2 weeks today in Boston. https://www.relive.cc/view/vr63wy4dzd6
