USA coast to coast stage 13 Santa Fe NM to Las Vegas NM


 118KM, 1.188M climbed, 4 hours 35 minutes 

Total 1,639KM, 11,973M climbed, 68 hours 14 minutes 

After a rest day in Santa Fe during which I ended up walking over 18,000 steps so not much of a rest we set off on the first of 9 days straight riding.

A shorter day with some climbing and we actually went over the highest point of the whole tour which was the Glorieta Pass at just over 7,500 feet or 2,300 meters.

Some lovely scenery today including a rest stop in Pecos national park.

Just after this we passed the 1,000 mile mark so just 2,400 miles to go.

I could see a storm in the near distance with lightning flashes so wanted to finish the ride without getting wet again but unfortunately went through 2 downpours only lasting about 10 minutes each with the first one including hail.

Ride into Las Vegas which is a quaint little town unlike it’s namesake in Nevada.  Staying in an old hotel called the Plaza which has been used for a number of films such as ‘No country for old men’ and ‘Vampires’ and is said to be haunted 

PS one more puncture after I finished my ride which takes me up to 8 I think.

There were about 30 friends and family to greet us at the finish. It was amazing that everyone who started finished the ride. USA coast to coast stage 41 Troy NY to Battleboro VT

 128KM, 1,727M climbed, 5 hours 49 minutes  Total 5,373KM, 32,183M climbed, 218 hours 47 minutes  A big climbing day today and we also crossed into our 13th different state Vermont. We started climbing from the off with a 3 mile climb just outside of Troy which split the group up and due to the climbing I found myself on my own for most of the ride.   As we entered Vermont most of the rest of the ride was in the Green Mountain National Park which meant stunning scenery of trees, hills and fast flowing rivers. The next climb was an 8 mile ascent up the Prospect Mountain and then a great descent with smooth sweeping roads.  After another small climb I descended at speeds hitting 48MPH. USA coast to coast stage 42 Battleboro VT to Burlington MA

 146KM, 1,584M climbing, 6 hours 17 minutes  Total 5,519KM, 33,767M climbed, 225 hours 4 minutes  A long penultimate day’s riding that took us through 3 states Vermont, New Hampshire and into Burlington Massachusetts which is a suburb of Boston. The day started overcast but soon developed into a beautiful June day in New England  For me this was actually the best days riding of the whole trip.  The New England scenery is stunning and there are some wonderful houses.  The day was spent riding past lakes, rivers, woods, tree lined roads, ponds and the weather was perfect.  There were some great climbs and descents although nothing as long as the previous day. We had a great celebratory meal at our final hotel as we only had 17 miles ride to the beach left the next day Amazingly all the starters completed the ride and nearly two thirds of us cycled EFI (Every F%#*+ Inch) https://www.relive.cc/view/v1OwG9BJ3XO
