USA coast to coast stage 10 Gallup NM to Grants NM

 209KM, 359M climbed, 4 hours 39 minutes 

Total 1,285KM, 8,911M climbed, 54 hours 4 minutes 

Nearly a quarter through the journey.  A much easier day today with only 10 miles on the I40 and although I woke up to another flat tyre (7th puncture) I had no further punctures today

For the first 5 miles while we rode out of town we received a police escort which was unplanned and very gracious of the local police

For part of the 10 miles on the I40 there were roadworks which meant it was down to one lane, so we all rode as a group with one of the support trucks behind us blocking the traffic 

After 28 miles we reached the continental divide at 7,295 feet altitude which marks the divide where the rainfall flow’s either to the pacific or Atlantic.

After that it was all steady downhill along the old route 66 with hardly any traffic I could concentrate on the landscape as well as the extremely long freight trains that passed us which can be up to 2 miles long.  Also passed through many places that had previously thrived being on route 66 but were now abandoned as a result of the construction of the I40.

Arrived in Grants about 12:30 which was too early for the rooms to be ready so some of us went to the Junkyard Brewery for a beer and barbecue sandwich.

There were about 30 friends and family to greet us at the finish. It was amazing that everyone who started finished the ride. USA coast to coast stage 41 Troy NY to Battleboro VT

 128KM, 1,727M climbed, 5 hours 49 minutes  Total 5,373KM, 32,183M climbed, 218 hours 47 minutes  A big climbing day today and we also crossed into our 13th different state Vermont. We started climbing from the off with a 3 mile climb just outside of Troy which split the group up and due to the climbing I found myself on my own for most of the ride.   As we entered Vermont most of the rest of the ride was in the Green Mountain National Park which meant stunning scenery of trees, hills and fast flowing rivers. The next climb was an 8 mile ascent up the Prospect Mountain and then a great descent with smooth sweeping roads.  After another small climb I descended at speeds hitting 48MPH. USA coast to coast stage 42 Battleboro VT to Burlington MA

 146KM, 1,584M climbing, 6 hours 17 minutes  Total 5,519KM, 33,767M climbed, 225 hours 4 minutes  A long penultimate day’s riding that took us through 3 states Vermont, New Hampshire and into Burlington Massachusetts which is a suburb of Boston. The day started overcast but soon developed into a beautiful June day in New England  For me this was actually the best days riding of the whole trip.  The New England scenery is stunning and there are some wonderful houses.  The day was spent riding past lakes, rivers, woods, tree lined roads, ponds and the weather was perfect.  There were some great climbs and descents although nothing as long as the previous day. We had a great celebratory meal at our final hotel as we only had 17 miles ride to the beach left the next day Amazingly all the starters completed the ride and nearly two thirds of us cycled EFI (Every F%#*+ Inch) https://www.relive.cc/view/v1OwG9BJ3XO
