It’s finally happening. After 15 months of planning I fly out tomorrow for a once in a lifetime opportunity to cycle 3,500 miles from Los Angeles to Boston over the next 7 weeks.
Rand McNally retrieved and ready we are following your progress every morning before I do my two miles with Alvin. Thinking of you all the time and good luck 👍 Dad & Lynne X
27KM, 143M climbed, 1 hour 21 minutes Overall totals 5,546KM (3,446 miles 33,910M (111,254ft) climbed 226 hours 25 minutes Average speed 15.2MPH, 24.5KPH 43 days riding, 6 days over 100 miles, 5 rest days Average 80 miles a day Memories = lifetime Our final day was a 17 mile celebratory ride to Revere Beach. The ride was taken at a leisurely pace and with 3 miles to go we all regrouped to ride to the beach together. There were about 30 friends and family to greet us at the finish. It was amazing that everyone who started finished the ride. I have some amazing memories of this ride and made some great friends. Some days were really hard but I never once thought of stopping or giving up. My aim was to see the real America as well as achieve something that few people have done. I saw some amazing scenery and above all had a great time I ended the journey with a fantastic day touring Boston with my daughter Megan and her boyfriend ...
128KM, 1,727M climbed, 5 hours 49 minutes Total 5,373KM, 32,183M climbed, 218 hours 47 minutes A big climbing day today and we also crossed into our 13th different state Vermont. We started climbing from the off with a 3 mile climb just outside of Troy which split the group up and due to the climbing I found myself on my own for most of the ride. As we entered Vermont most of the rest of the ride was in the Green Mountain National Park which meant stunning scenery of trees, hills and fast flowing rivers. The next climb was an 8 mile ascent up the Prospect Mountain and then a great descent with smooth sweeping roads. After another small climb I descended at speeds hitting 48MPH. I cycled over my first covered bridge before then unfortunately starting to ride on a road that was under repair with no tarmac. After 1.5 miles of bone shaking riding and fearing that my bike might fall apart I decided to take a diversion off the designated route. Whils...
164KM, 770M climbed, 6 hours 15 minutes Total 5,245KM, 30,456M climbed, 212 hours 58 minutes Our 6th and final century ride. There was a slight headwind for most of the ride but I stayed with some other riders for most of the day and so we were able to share time riding on the front and so l got some protection from the wind. For virtually all the he ride we followed the course of the Mohawk River which is a tributary of the Hudson River Which we crossed as we entered Troy. We also were on a bike trail for the last 20 miles which made a nice break from the traffic and also offered some shade which cooled down the temperature. Just under 200 miles left to complete and today we hit another milestone as we passed 30KM of climbing. Tomorrow we have our longest climb of the whole trip being a 9 mile climb in the Green Mountains of Vermont. https://www.relive.cc/view/vYvrV3Ympxv
