USA coast to coast stage 42 Battleboro VT to Burlington MA

 146KM, 1,584M climbing, 6 hours 17 minutes 

Total 5,519KM, 33,767M climbed, 225 hours 4 minutes 

A long penultimate day’s riding that took us through 3 states Vermont, New Hampshire and into Burlington Massachusetts which is a suburb of Boston.

The day started overcast but soon developed into a beautiful June day in New England 

For me this was actually the best days riding of the whole trip.  The New England scenery is stunning and there are some wonderful houses.  The day was spent riding past lakes, rivers, woods, tree lined roads, ponds and the weather was perfect.  There were some great climbs and descents although nothing as long as the previous day.

We had a great celebratory meal at our final hotel as we only had 17 miles ride to the beach left the next day

Amazingly all the starters completed the ride and nearly two thirds of us cycled EFI (Every F%#*+ Inch)

The first rest stop was at a town called’Hooker’ which is strange for a town in the middle of the USA to be named after a position in a rugby team. We then crossed our fifth state line into our sixth state Kansas through which we will ride for the next week. As we are in Kansas we visited Dorothy’s house which to be honest was a tacky way of cashing in on the Wizard of Oz. USA Coast to Coast stage 22 Emporia KS to Topeka KS

 107KM, 794M climbed, 4 hours  Total 2,769KM. 15,822M climbed, 112 hours 34 minutes  After a rest day in Emporia which was gearing itself up for the Unbound gravel races which attracts professional gravel racers from around the world, today we had a short ride to Topeka the capital of Kansas. Due to roadworks our route involved a slight detour and with heavy skies it looked like we were in for rain but as usual it held off but the weather has certainly turned more humid and temperature is set to be in the 30’s for the next few days  At some point during the ride we passed the halfway point of the trip.
